Life and Death

Catherine C. Tagalog is a 21-year-old student currently attending the School of Fine Arts and Design with a major in painting. I discovered my passion for the arts during the pandemic of 2020 through YouTube videos. I entered the poster-making contest as one of our senior high school activities because no one volunteered to attend, so my classmates pushed me to join. I didn’t know how to draw. I just kept searching for a way to win a poster contest that was manipulated by the colors. I applied what I learned in my research. Luckily, I won second place. After that, I didn’t continue my art passion since I didn’t know how to draw. I just won the event because of the color manipulation.
Because of the pandemic, I just kept watching YouTube videos, and then I opened the art tutorial video by accident. After watching, I tried to draw a simple drawing using shapes to form a woman's body, and then I kept learning until I knew how to draw a charcoal portrait. After a year, I got some commissions, and then I enjoyed the journey until I decided to proceed to college at the University of Mindanao, majoring in fine arts and design. I participated in the “KITA” exhibition last year 2021 in the University of Mindanao and joined the “ALIMOGA” exhibition at the University of Mindanao on October 13,2022. I made a series that shows my life during a breakdown in Davao City. The title of the series was "The Journey of Breakdown." I made four portraits, and the titles were "There’s a lot to say," "Frightened to trust," "Better to keep it to myself," and "Let the compass of life assist."
Across the Universe and much more. I hopes that one day I can put her artwork in a big exhibit and hang it in a famous museum; be a part of the art industry; and make amazing pieces that people around the world will love.
